Dear Nashville

Dear Nashville,

You are an amazing city.

You stole my heart when Belmont Orientation opened my eyes to all you had in store. I saw fireflies for the first time. It was pure magic, and I’ve loved you ever since.

I spent five years growing under your watch. Learning, performing, creating, failing, and loving. Endless hours of rehearsal, running through the rain to get to class, sipping an iced Mocahontas and delving into deep conversations with my friends at Bongo. Those years will always be a treasure for me. Feeling so independent, but still not having all the responsibilities of an adult. There is nothing like it. You brought some of the best people I know into my life. Big hearted people who became family. You are the place where I got to spread my wings and try new things as an actor, a storyteller. Nashville, you are where the most important relationship in my life bloomed, where we promised to share our life surrounded by the people we love. You were a safe space to land, a place we could grow and become who we would be.

I am forever grateful.

When we thought it was time to leave Los Angeles, you were the first, the only place we thought to go. We always imagined we’d be back in your arms one day. Spending last spring getting to know you again was one of the hardest times in my life. I loved seeing all the ways you had grown and changed, but I was also struggling through the fact that I had changed too. When we knew we couldn’t stay, it broke my heart. Because it wasn’t you, it was me. And I know that’s cliche, but it’s true. You did nothing wrong. It was the timing, the very personal reasons, and the space we had made in our hearts for a new city.

Nashville, it wasn’t you. And I just need you to know that I adore you. That I miss you. That I think the people who call you home are brilliant. That the art created within your borders is stunning and important. That you are a magic city. You will always be in my heart and you will always feel a little something like home.

All my love,

A Cali girl who still says y’all
